SHELLAC Baby!

Welcome to the revolution....
I just love this product. When applied correctly by the therapist and treated properly by the client Shellac is a non chip high shine nail polish and strengthener. It really is the answer to prayers for those of you who love a traditional manicure and want healthy natural nails without worrying about drying time and the enevitable chips after 2 days.

The treatment cost is £20.00 which includes removing the old finish on your next visit.

Shellac is as good as the buzz but sadly has got a little bad press recently for a number of reasons. Let's answer those....

1)Therapists are making excessive claims about the product and therefore clients have unrealistic expectations of the treatment - some therapists just have to stretch the truth and claim that Shellac lasts 4 weeks. I have one client who can keep her Shellac on for 4 weeks (she has managed six) and it looks as good as the day I did it but for most people Shellac needs redoing every 2 weeks. A manicure that lasts two weeks, compared with smudging your polish on your seat belt five minutes after your treatment is obviously not enough for some... Why oversell it ?!

2) Treatments are being done too quickly. As ever the pressure is on in a salon and time is money BUT cutting corners when doing a shellac manicure WILL result in the finished product chipping before it should. PREP is key to this finish and has to be meticulous. A Shellac manicure when on for the first time takes 30-45mins. When we are removing the old and reapplying new you can expect 45mins-1hour.

3) Shellac fixes badly damaged nails.... NOT TRUE. Shellac loves good healthy nails. If you have badly flaking nails or acrylic damage I would not guarentee Shellac for 2 weeks no chips. Don't misunderstand, it will seriously help your nails and when done properly the treatment manicure will benefit the cuticle and encourage new nail growth. Plus the finish is stronger than any nail polish and if the nail is end capped properly it will certainly help to stop the nail flaking... BUT if you have nails in poor condition and type all day, everyday, then you are asking a lot of a little bottle! Once the end seal wears away chipping becomes more likely. In the case of nails in poor conditon up two weeks is my opinion.

4)Saving money on removal wraps - Shellac wraps are used to remove the product. A salon that repeatedly soaks your nails for ten minutes in acetone will weaken them risking the health of the nail and future treatments not lasting as long.

5) Filing the nail surface..... NO NO NO NO! Some salons are trying to cut the time consuming and technical nail prep by filing the surface of the nail to improve adhesion. This is not the point my friends.... Shellac is a MANICURE treatment not a nail Tech treatment. When done properly your nails are in better condition not worse.
